305: Haolonggood (好龙谷) Stegosaurus 𝘶𝘯𝘨𝘶𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘶𝘴 Review
Just when it seemed difficult for HLG to deliver another herbivore to delight us as much as some of the recent ones, along comes this Stegosaurus… but not the usual 𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘰𝘱𝘴! This one is modelled on the larger and less offered 𝘶𝘯𝘨𝘶𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘶𝘴. Once again we have another contribution to the great variety of dinosaurs we have received in the last two years.
HLG has really been a constant source of delight, and I have little doubt more is yet to come!

P304: PNSO Tyrannotitan (Mateo 魁纣龙玛特奥 Review)
Переглядів 3,7 тис.21 день тому
Here’s almost a blast from the past. Remember back when PNSO gave us a deluge of carcharodontosaurids and tyrannosaurids in an endless stream? I’d always thought they would produce Tyrannotitan for sure, but they didn’t. Now comes this one, in the same aesthetic, including the lack of lips, and it may as well have been one that was originally to be released then. The paint application is shocki...

Finally… a saurolophine hadrosaur! Maiasaura is one I’ve known for a long time, but didn’t have a single model of because I stupidly gave my Carnegie away. This one by Haolonggood is a beautiful piece of work. What can I say? HLG does it again, and this time they do the iconic Chinese sauropod proud. This is that impressive Mamenchisaurus the size it should have been done, but Haolonggood chose to do it first. The so-called 素 version is anything but! We should all be thankful to PNSO because their high quality sets the bar for other figure companies. My favorite is the green version, and if I have the chance to buy it, I would be very happy. I'm eager to hear your thoughts on the theory that Dacentrurus is Miragaia. You know how much I love the Miragaia figure, so it's disheartening to hear this news. Thank you so much for this video, my dear sir. You are the best. 🖤

The latest studies show that pliosaurs' flippers were used for flying through the water like penguins. The eddy from the front flipper increased the efficiency of the back flipper just as the first goose flying in a V-formation eased the passage of the goose next in line.

Nice positive and informative review as always. What I like about this Haolonggood Stegosaurus ungulatus is that it matches very well with the PNSO Stegosaurus stenops in terms of size. And the entire question of size of the model of an extinct animal is a difficult question. First, different researchers come to different maximum size estimates based on different lines of argument. Second, we need to ask the questions how representative the size of fossils of a species of an extinct animal would be for the size range of adult individuals that animal. Over the course of millions of year there lived probably millions of stegosaurs on Earth and we have maybe 100 or so complete fossils. How likely is it that these 100 fossils cover the size range of that species? I would say not very likely. Therefore, I like the approach that the paleontology blogger the Vividen has taken where he used both extinct and living species (including large mammals) with good coverage and calculated the ratio between the largest adult individual and the average size of adult individuals. With that ratio he would then estimate the maximum size of other species. This is still an inaccurate approach with a large error margin, but much better than just assuming that the maximum and minimum sizes of fossils would represent the maximum and minimum of the entire population that ever lived. Population size dynamics by the way is also affected by environmental factors like climate and food availability. Which may be negatively correlated with preservation potential of fossils. I give you and example. In a warm, humid and rainy climate (like rainy forest) with abundant vegetation and food sources, herbivores can grow to the maximum size that is biologically possible. But the preservation potential of fossils in such an environment would be low. Conversely, in a dry and less vegetated environment (arid plains or even desert) the availability of food may limit growth, but in such an environment the potential for fossil preservation is much higher. So what we see in the fossil record would be biased towards the preserved fossils from the food limited environment.

Oh no can't believe the Gastonia is lost 😮 seems the smaller packages end up missing. The Gastonia models is a must have as its well done on both colors. The Diabloceratops is out now from Haolonggood and I hope this doesn't go the same way as the packaging is small again. I didn't quite like the pinkish baby and changed it to match the brown mother. In all another well done piece from Haolonggood which keeps giving us non stop models.😊

The green was the obvious choice for me as the other two options were just too outlandish. Although I'm able to change the color as and when I wish, I usually try not to with mess with these models. It was as large as the Pike model from Nanmu and still bigger than the Pnso Biber. Altogether a nice herd of Stegosaurus 😊

Despite the fact that Haolonggood's dino figures look really good they are not scientifically accurate the way PNSO's are. Im not totally conviced he is putting the same effort, the contrary it looks like he just copys previous artworks that are now offdated. Question. Before Sophy did we know that stegosaurus had broad pelvis? Because all past depictions showed them with a slender one

I recently started buying HLG dinosaurs just because PNSO don't make 1:35 suropods. I got the HLG alamosaurus, manmenchiosaurus and the stego ungulatus. The stego has better form than the PNSO 2021 stego, but most newer PNSO figure has better color and texturing. HLG for me is a hit and miss. While I appreciate that they make the best mass produced 1:35 sauropods, I still don't like their head sculpt (too toy/cartoon-like) and paint application. My alamosaurus is from a second batch which have defective paint on one side that makes the skin looks like having cracks, while the manmechiosaurus has very good body form and better paint, sadly it looks like a paint job from a paint printer that is quite widely used now for various products. There are straight lines on the body that i can detect which looks suspiciously like a printer work. Compare this to newer PNSO dinos like the edmontosaurus and the tyranotitan, HLG still lags in quality. These new PNSO figures are looking like a taxidermized dinosaurs rather than a toy.

Nice review! Thanks for all the great shots and comparisons! I've ordered the same two colors. They should arrive next week. Can't wait! Now, of the comparisons you so abundantly provided, I just have to point out the one with the PNSO Wuerhosaurus. To start, I must say I love PNSO as well. Although, the problem I have with PNSO is I feel they're figures are often overpriced. This Wuerhosaurus is a perfect example of this. The much smaller Wuerhosaurus is generally selling for $35, while the much larger Haolonggood Stegosaurus is generally selling for $30. I also think the Haolonggood figure is overall a better looking figure than the PNSO Wuerhosaurus. In the end, I just hope Haolonggood can keep giving us these wonderful figures at these incredibly fair prices, and PNSO will consider coming down a bit. 🤞😉

I know a friend of a friend of PNSO founder. I am also in the toy industry. I can tell you that PNSO price is not overpriced. Their toys are still hand-painted by the best in the industry. I also have the original colored Safari Ltd feathered T. Rex and Papo’s brown running T. @@DinosDragons i might be wrong but the pnso one in 1:35 might actually fit as mamenchisaurus youngi, but im not sure about anatomical differences between the 2 species and how obvious they are in that model

I just cannot keep up with the barrage of artistry being released- it's going to leave me bankrupt! i haven't even started collecting them yet so i've been trying to save every release. This one looks like it's at a disco!

There are two sides to this. The fact that you can see all these models arrayed together means you can see which you like best and just get that. On the other hand, it just might make you want to collect them all! 😅

I hope that it will still have good paint apps! I notice that even in officially-released re-releases, the paint application is often more crude that the first run one!

The paintjob in the little one is better. More natural and beautiful.

Now that I have had both for a while, I definitely agree. The smaller one looks better to my eye!
